According to the National Gardening Association, the number of Americans growing their own produce is up significantly, with 42 million households involved in gardening either at home or via their community as of 2013.
The data came in via NGA’s report, Garden to Table: A 5-Year Look at Food Gardening in America.
Interestingly, more young people are gardening than in recent years, with individuals ages 18-34 earning the title of fastest-growing group in this category for the time period 2008-2013. Children’s participation in gardening has also increased by a full 25%, according to the report.
Urban areas are also participating more in gardening, with a 29% increase during the time period.
